The course, after clarifying the birth, development, meaning of museum discipline, and illustrating the basic concepts of Museology, intends to offer a picture of the history, functions, types of the modern public museum, as it comes to from its birth in the 18th century to the contemporary age, considering also the most important examples related to the princely collections in Italy and Europe that preceded the birth of museums.
