Course Content
The course aims to provide basics about Prehistoric Archaeology. Methodological aspects will be also addressed in order to show the multidisciplinary approach used in the field of Prehistoric Archaeology.

Type of Assessment
The exam will be oral and will focus on the topics covered during the classes. Identification and contextualization of some stone artefacts among those examined during the course will be required.
Course program
The course will provide the appropriate basic knowledge on: chronology and cultures of the Prehistory from the Paleolithic to the Metal Age, Man-environment relationship, settlement strategies, burial customs, artistic production and symbolic activity in general. Particular attention will be paid to European evidence with more specific references to Italian contexts. Methodological aspects will be addressed by presenting some key-studies about the multidisciplinary approach used in the field of prehistoric archaeology.
A part of the course will be focused on the recognition and classification of prehistoric stone assemblages: typology, technology and operational sequences. Some general issues concerning the procurement and circulation of lithic raw materials will be addressed. During the course students will undertake the study of stone artifacts.
